Max. Adult Length: 1.9m (Typically 1.5 – 1.75m)

The small triangular dorsal fin as a useful identifying feature of this small cetacean with a dark grey back and light grey to white flanks and belly. Porpoises tend to roll at the surface, sometimes quite rapidly, with little body showing but can surge strongly when hunting. Typically seen individually or in small groups of 2-5. This is the most common cetacean in our waters but amongst the hardest to spot unless you watch carefully.

Key Areas: Found everywhere but Scarborough in North Yorkshire and Anglesey in Wales are amongst many hotspots.
